People who travel or work on the go nowadays usually use several electronic devices simultaneously, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and additional accessories. As a result, the requirements for charging solutions are increasing significantly, as they need to charge devices as efficiently, conveniently, and safely as possible. With the NGE100 series, MEAN WELL offers a well-designed solution to meet these demands.

What are the limitations of conventional chargers?

The high charging demands of modern devices are increasingly challenging conventional power supplies. Single-port chargers can only power one device at a time, which is time-consuming. When traveling, another issue arises: power supplies are often not compatible with local socket types and require additional adapters. Even traditional multi-port power supplies are only partially suitable for operating multiple electronic devices simultaneously. Since they assign a fixed power output to each port, devices with different power requirements cannot be optimally charged at the same time. Power-hungry devices may not receive sufficient current, while part of the available charging capacity remains unused. Intelligent power distribution is therefore essential to ensure efficient charging for all connected devices.

How is power intelligently distributed among multiple devices?

The universal GaN fast charger of the MEAN WELL NGE100 series ensures powerful charging for all connected devices thanks to intelligent power distribution. It automatically adjusts the required output voltage (5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 15 V, or 20 V) to meet the specific demand of the connected device. This allows laptops, tablets, smartphones, and accessories to be charged quickly and simultaneously via four outputs.

The NGE100 features two Quick Charge USB-A outputs and two USB-C outputs with Power Delivery functionality (Fig. 2). The USB-A ports (USB-A1 and USB-A2) support 18 W fast charging, enabling rapid power supply for smartphones, headphones, and other accessories. The two USB-C ports (USB-C1 and USB-C2) each deliver up to 100 W, making them suitable for high-power devices (Fig. 3). The maximum output of 100 W is guaranteed when using the included USB Type-C fast charging cable. Optionally, MEAN WELL offers the USB3.2TYPECPD3 USB-C cable with E-Marker chip for PD applications as an accessory. This cable can be used with the NGE100 as well as with more powerful chargers up to a maximum of 240 W.
