Schurter MSS-IO Electronic Switch – Ultra-Durable and Precise

We are now offering the Schurter MSS-IO pushbutton, an electronic switch with an IO-Link interface. Typical applications include industrial automation, robotics, and hygiene-critical environments where precision, process reliability, and digital communication are essential.

The MSS-IO is based on Schurter's proven MSS electronic switch and has been enhanced with an IO-Link module that enables bidirectional communication, on-the-fly parameterization, and real-time diagnostics. Instead of using capacitive sensing technology, it detects switching events through precise changes in electrical resistance. This technology is sensitive enough to detect even the slightest pressure changes while being robust enough for demanding industrial applications. Since the design contains no mechanical components, the MSS-IO operates wear-free and achieves a service life of more than 20 million actuations with an operating force of only 1 to 3 N. The output is fully configurable and supports PNP, NPN and push-pull operating modes, as well as NO and NC switching functions. The MSS-IO is connected via a 4-pin M12 standard connector and operates with a 24 V DC supply voltage. Schurter specifies an operating temperature range of −40 °C to +85 °C.

Thanks to its sealed surface, the device is resistant to water, dirt, and cleaning agents and complies with IP67/IP69K protection ratings according to IEC 60529. The absence of moving parts also minimizes maintenance requirements, making the MSS-IO particularly suitable for hygiene-critical applications such as food processing and laboratory automation. In addition, the switch features RGB side illumination and a modern design with a stainless steel actuator and translucent housing. With a diameter of 22 mm and an installation depth of 28.9 mm, it can be easily integrated into existing installations while saving space.

The MSS-IO complies with the requirements of the CE, UKCA, RoHS and REACH directives.
