Regulation (EU) 2023/988

The new Regulation (EU) 2023/988 of the European Parliament and the Council of 10 May 2023 on general product safety (General Product Safety Regulation – GPSR) will replace Directive 2001/95/EC (General Product Safety Directive) on 13 December 2024.

The objective of the new regulation is to improve the functioning of the internal market while ensuring a high level of consumer protection. This regulation establishes rules for the safety of consumer products that are placed on the market or made available on the market. It applies to products placed on the market or made available on the market insofar as there are no specific provisions under Union law concerning the safety of the relevant products that pursue the same objective.

Importers and distributors who become aware of an accident caused by a product they have placed on the market or made available on the market must immediately inform the manufacturer. In order to receive, process, and forward possible accident reports or reports of dangerous products without delay, Schukat has set up a central communication channel for customers via the email address GPSR@schukat.com.
