2D barcodes / Data Matrix codes
Compact labeling for efficient processes
Schukat Data Matrix codes display fixed product, shipping, and process data on the label in a compact, machine-readable format. This allows relevant information to be captured with a single scan and processed digitally.
Compared to traditional one-dimensional barcodes, 2D barcodes can contain significantly more information in a small space. This structured labeling supports rapid product identification, reliable traceability, and efficient workflows in logistics, warehousing, and production.
What information is contained in the Data Matrix code?
Data Matrix codes contain predefined information used to uniquely identify the product.
| Information | Description |
|---|---|
| HU Number | Internal identification number |
| Customer Material | Customer’s item number |
| Schukat Material | Schukat’s item number |
| Quantity | Quantity of the item in the respective unit |
| Manufacturer Material | Manufacturer’s item number |
| Manufacturer | Manufacturer code |
| Material Short Text | Short description of the item |
| Batch | Schukat’s batch number |
| Supplier Batch | Supplier’s batch number |
| Manufacture Date | Manufacture date of the item |
| RoHS Marking | Information on RoHS compliance |
| MSL | Moisture Sensitivity Level |
Some of this information is also printed in plain text on the label. Additional information is contained exclusively in the Data Matrix code and can be read by scanning it.

Standardized and machine-readable
The barcode content has a structured format. Defined data identifiers uniquely assign each piece of information. This allows a system to recognize whether the data represents, for example, a handling unit (HU) number, an item number, a quantity, a batch number, or a manufacturing date.
The individual data fields are separated from one another by control characters. This results in barcode content that is clearly readable and can be processed systematically.
Structure of the barcode content:
- [)>[RS]06[GS]3Z39782724[GS]PFEL-FD4598-400V-10A[GS]1POR1206M002. 7-1[GS]Q500[GS]K1245789Online238[GS]1VSHAR[GS]2K80823781[GS]4K20[GS]30T0000729379[GS]31T00789216 [GS]6D20180605[GS]30PR[GS]Z2[RS][EOT]
- [GS] = Group Separator
- [RS] = Record Separator
- [EOT] = End of Message
- [)>[RS]06 = Start of data structure per ISO 15434
- (3Z) = Data field identifier
