MEAN WELL BIC-5K Series Power Supplies

The new BIC-5K series from MEAN WELL will soon be available from stock. Specifically developed to meet increasing power demands, it complements the proven BIC-2200 series. The bidirectional 5 kW power supplies are particularly used in applications such as sorting and formation test equipment for battery manufacturing, home energy storage systems, kinetic energy recovery systems, and distributed grids (V2G). They control the energy flow from the AC grid to the DC grid and vice versa, enabling efficient energy usage and feedback. This helps reduce energy costs and reliably lower the CO₂ footprint of companies and users.

The innovative product series includes eight models in a compact metal housing (460 × 211 × 83.5 mm) with single output. The power supplies operate with an input voltage of 180–305 VAC and 24–430 VDC, a power factor of 0.99, and provide DC output voltages of 24 V, 48 V, 96 V, and 380 V.  Integrated features include remote control, parallel operation up to 30 kW, optional three-phase operation, and control via CAN bus, Modbus, and RS-485 interfaces. In addition to a high efficiency of up to 93%, the units feature a low-noise fan (<43–54 dB) and are designed for an operating temperature range of −30 °C to +70 °C. A conformal coating protects the PCB components and enhances the product lifetime. Furthermore, the fully digital power supplies include a built-in PFC circuit and integrated protection functions such as short circuit, overload, overvoltage, and overtemperature protection. They comply with Protection Class I and are certified according to comprehensive safety standards including 62368-1, 62477-1, and the grid connection standard 50549-1. MEAN WELL provides a 5-year warranty for the BIC-5K power supply family.
