New active Citel SPDs
Portfolio expansion with Citel surge protection solutions

Power Supply | 29.01.2026
We are expanding our portfolio of Citel surge protective devices by almost 30 high-quality products. The active SPDs (Surge Protective Devices) reliably protect systems and end devices in industrial, ITE, and lighting applications against transient overvoltages. The range extends from compact PCB-mounted SPDs of the PAC2 series (42 × 9.6 × 44 mm, 25 g) to robust SPDs of the MLPCA1 series (66 × 42 × 32 mm, 152 g) designed for harsh environmental conditions.
The SPDs protect against overvoltages in single-phase and multi-phase power networks as well as data lines, safely discharge surge currents from 2 kA to 40 kA, and support load currents of up to 16 A. They feature circuit disconnection in the event of a fault and, depending on the product, comply with protection ratings IP20, IP65, and IP67. The SPDs are designed for DIN-rail mounting, chassis mounting, and PCB mounting, and are suitable for ambient temperatures ranging from −40 to +85 °C.
Depending on the application, connection is possible via screw terminals, push-in terminals, flying leads, or by soldering THT pins directly onto the device PCB. For optimum protection, Citel offers a customized protection concept that combines different SPD types. Type 1 protects the main distribution board, Type 2 and Type 2+3 protect distribution boards or end devices, while combined variants (1+2+3) provide comprehensive protection for complex systems.
Even in existing installations, retrofitting an SPD directly at the end device is worthwhile in order to prevent consequential damage, extend the service life of the electronics, and reduce maintenance costs. The SPDs comply with EN 61643-11, IEC 61643-11, and UL 1449 standards, carry CE, EAC, EN, ENEC, IEC, and UKCA approvals, and are RoHS-compliant. Most SPDs are covered by a two-year manufacturer’s warranty, while the PAC1 series benefits from an extended ten-year warranty.
